The Atrium at Harris Place is a singularly distinctive interior space in the City of New London. It is located at 165 State Street, immediately adjacent to the City hall in the heart of downtown. Since 2008 MS17 has been working on the concept for temporary public art installation in the Atrium and in May 2014 inaugurated the Atrium at Harris Place Public Arts Initiative with Engaging Space/Liriodendron, a multidisciplinary visual and sound art installation by Mark Gerard McKee and Butch Rovan, which opened to the public on September 27, 2014 in conjunction with the CreateHereNow project of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Develop Office of the Arts.
The goal of the Atrium at Harris Place Public Arts Installation project is to utilize the Atrium as a venue for presenting on-going temporary public art installations as a means to engage the community, invigorate the center city and establish New London as a destination for arts and culture.
